The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is now conducting an inventory of confiscated gadgets, which the agency plans to donate to the Department of Education (DepEd) to aid in distance learning amid the coronavirus disease.

In a budget hearing on Wednesday, Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said the agency is now processing the possible donation of gadgets such as cellphones and laptops to the DepEd.

“Right now, we are just processing the deeds of donation so that these can be donated to the proper agency, of course subject to clearances provided by the regulatory agencies that cover these gadgets,” he told senators.

“We will also be donating other school supplies to the DepEd and other agencies,” he added.

National Desk

A Baltimore teacher’s students are getting Chromebooks thanks to a man on a mission.

This is the third week of school and there are still children waiting for Chromebooks.

The start of the school year comes with challenges for first-year teacher Trivia Payne.

“I realized that they didn’t have computers, they were on phones. Or if they had a computer, the sound was all jumbled up,” Payne said.

Payne teaches second grade at Sinclair Lane Elementary, and half of her students didn’t have laptops as schools started the semester virtually.

“I remember, on my lunch break, I started texting people, ‘If you have any laptops, please let me know,'” Payne said.

That’s how she got connected with Gerald Moore.

“I immediately decided that I’m going to get your kids Chromebooks because this is unnecessary. They should have the opportunity to be successful,” Moore

Delhi govt to challenge HC order on providing free gadgets and internet; will seek clarity on funding from Centre – education top

derry wae

Less than a week after the Delhi high court directed private unaided schools in the national capital to provide gadgets and internet connections to poor students for online classes and claim reimbursement from the Delhi government in accordance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, the government is likely to challenge the order in the Supreme Court.

Officials in the Delhi government’s education department confirmed to HT that they have decided to file an appeal before the Supreme Court, challenging the HC’s division bench’s September 18 order on the grounds that it has not laid down clear reimbursement guidelines for the Centre.

“While the Delhi high court has asked the schools to claim reimbursement from the state government within eight weeks of the supply of gadgets or internet, there are clear directions on how and when the Centre will reimburse the state. The Delhi government will request the apex

What is SASE? A cloud service that marries SD-WAN with security

derry wae

Secure access service edge (SASE) is a network architecture that rolls software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) and security into a cloud service that promises simplified WAN deployment, improved efficiency and security, and to provide appropriate bandwidth per application.

Because it’s a cloud service, SASE (pronounced “sassy”) can be readily scaled up and scaled down and billed based on usage. As a result, it can be an attractive option in a time of rapid change.

While some vendors in this space offer hardware devices to connect at-home employees and corporate data centers to their SASE networks, most vendors handle the connections through software clients or virtual appliances.

Gartner created the term SASE and first described it in a 2019 white paper that lays out its goals and what a SASE implementation should look like. The consulting firm notes that SASE is still developing and that all of its features may not

Best remote learning MacBook for 2020: MacBook Air vs. MacBook Pro

derry wae

Any other year and the back-to-school laptop shopping would be long since over. But in 2020, school reopenings are already causing chaos as cities and states reverse course and send students home for full-time remote learning. That means changing circumstances and new school tech needs for many students.

While many remote-learning school tasks can be accomplished with a simple Chromebook or cheap Windows laptop, those systems, especially budget-priced ones, can be hard to find right now. A bigger investment, but a good long-term one, is a full-featured MacBook. With its well-regarded MacOS and nearly bullet-proof build, it’s still the first choice for many students in high school and college — especially with some decent student discounts usually available from Apple, at least for college students and faculty.
