NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday directed unaided private schools and government schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas and others to provide gadgets and internet package to students of the economically weaker section (EWS) to take online classes.

A division bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Sanjeev Narula, while passing the judgement, clarified that the cost of such gadgets and digital equipments as well as internet package are not a part of tuition fee and have to be provided free of cost to the EWS / DG students by private unaided schools and government schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas.

“The RTE (Right to Education) Act lays down the material foundation for creating equal opportunities for everyone in order to reach the ultimate goal of socio-economic justice. Good quality education translates into better employment avenues. By ensuring that EWS students are admitted to private schools we can strive to achieve socio-economic equality,”

This list highlighting the best laptop for high school students is all about machines that provide reliable, everyday performance and long battery life but in sizes that can fit into an average backpack and at prices around or below $1,000.

With more people learning and working from home though, the increased need for inexpensive laptops means models frequently come in and out of stock at retailers. For example, one of my favorite Chromebooks at the moment is the Lenovo Chromebook Duet, which is listed for $399

Lackawanna Trail fully reopens for first day of school | Education

derry wae

FACTORYVILLE — For the first time in six months, John Yanniello stood in front of a classroom full of children.

Unlike most area students, those at Lackawanna Trail will be in their classroom five days a week — spaced at least several feet apart and wearing masks.

On Thursday, Yanniello met the fourth graders in his math class. He also positioned a stand with his laptop so that other students, whose parents chose a virtual option, could see the math class, too.

Staying apart, Lackawanna Trail students came together for the first day of an unprecedented school year.

“I’m just happy they’re back,” Yanniello said as his students ate lunch in his classroom instead of the cafeteria due to social distancing efforts. “They seem happy to be back as well.”

While most school districts in Northeast Pennsylvania chose hybrid or fully virtual models for reopening, the Wyoming County district chose

As COVID looms over school year, Rep. Joe Kennedy hits Sen. Ed Markey on 1996 Telecommunications Act, broadband access; both press for stimulus deal to help parents, students

Rep. Joe Kennedy on Tuesday night took aim at one of Sen. Ed Markey’s signature bills, the Telecommunications Act of 1996, arguing too many families still cannot afford cable service or access broadband at a time of confusion and concerns for public health as teachers and parents grapple with COVID-19 heading into the school year.

In a WCVB debate, both candidates urgently pressed the federal government to assist cash-strapped states and towns with an injection of stimulus aid to help schools reopen safely and to assist with hybrid or remote learning where necessary.

Neither advocated a one-size-fits-all approach.

Markey said communities must “err on the side of caution” until “there’s a guarantee that these schools are safe.” He added that he’s pushing for $4 billion to expand internet access, broadband and Wi-Fi hotspots across the country and Massachusetts to prevent “homework and opportunity gaps” because “we have to anticipate those

Ideal for going back to school

(Pocket-lint) – Looking for a new Chromebook? Chromebooks have been getting more and more successful, and are available from many big names in laptops including HP, Acer and Asus.

Education has also been a big market for the devices, but they’re also great for a simple home laptop for Gmail, Google Docs and web browsing.

Chrome OS is Google’s alternative to Windows and, essentially, is a more complex version of the Chrome browser with a desktop. It’s ridiculously simple to use, updates itself and lacks the confusion and complexity that often hobbles Windows and macOS. That said, it is less capable for professional use than the other operating systems. But for most users at home or in education it provides more than enough functionality.

Here’s our list of the best Chrome OS laptops and we’ll be adding more in as time goes on.

School websites have the info students need

With schools in the Twin Harbors set to begin the 2020-21 school year this coming week, all have adopted some form of online learning based on recommendations from local and state health departments.

Here’s a quick rundown of what each district is doing and where to find more information.

Aberdeen School District

According to a letter to school district staff published on the district website on Aug. 24, due to a spike in cases, the Aberdeen School District is “not able to offer any in-person options for instruction at this time.”

The district will open the school year in a “100 percent distance-only format,” also known as remote or online learning, for all grade levels across all schools in the district.

The site says the district will be monitoring local COVID transmission rates and will adjust its plan accordingly.

Ericsson, UNICEF Launch Global Partnership to Map School Internet Connectivity

Ericsson and UNICEF announced today a global partnership to help map school connectivity in 35 countries by the end of 2023. Mapping the internet connectivity landscape for schools and their surrounding communities is a critical first step towards providing every child with access to digital learning opportunities.

Children use their tablet and work with each other at the UNICEF supported Debate e-Learning Centre in a village.

This joint effort is part of the Giga initiative. Launched last year and led by UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Giga aims to connect every school to the internet. Ericsson is the first private sector partner to make a multimillion-dollar commitment to the initiative and does so as a Global UNICEF Partner for School Connectivity Mapping.

According to the ITU, 360 million young people currently do not have access to the internet. This results in exclusion, fewer resources to learn, and limited
